The reason for the 2nd amendment is to protect the people from the government. It was something well understood by the people of the day. What is sad is that anybody could rationally interpret it in any other way. As if the framers were interested on the minutiae of life and sandwiched the keeping guns for fun and food right between two others that are clearly aimed at limiting the governments ability to become a tyranny. IMO, its seems like the thought was Okay, freedom of religion, speech, assembly... That sounds good. Maybe we should put in a way for the people to ensure that they can keep those rights. In addition, to my recollection, the government has Never done anything for the safety and protection of the citizenry. Any claim that gun control is intended to be out of concern and safety should be treated with skepticism since the govt has proved, time and again, the willingness to treat the populace as useless eaters.
