The reason that Israel chose this particular timing for this initiative was the creation of a Palestinian unity government. Israel tried desperately to get the world to reject this new government that represented all the Palestinians. To Israels dismay the US, EU and UN all accepted the new unity government. Israel refused to negotiate with the Palestinian Authority as they said he didnt represent all the Palestinians. Now that he did they no longer had this as an excuse. As Israel does not want peace they needed a distraction...the murder of the 3 settler boys. In the ensuing operations Israel re-arrested Palestinians just released and killed Palestinians in the West Bank and ran amok. Following the kidnapping of a 15 year old Palestinian, forced to drink gasoline before being set on fire. Still with no reaction Israel launch an air raid on Gaza killing a Palestinian. Hamas then sent rockets into Israel. This was just what Israel wanted and launch into its murderous campaign.
