The recent spate of media waves that time and again defames an institution known to respect and elevate the status of women is indeed ironic. Let us take a look at some facts here which receive no attention and are never highlighted, thanks to the biased MEDIA- AMU stood for communal violence bill..MEDIA QUIET AMU stood for Malala Yousafzai... MEDIA QUIET AMU stood for Nirbhaya and held a signature campaign to resolute punishment for rape....MEDIA QUIET AMU contributed more than a crore rupees to help flood relief for the people of Uttarakhand..MEDIA QUIET AMU students and staff have been giving up their Annual Sir Syed Dinner for collecting funds to help riot victims in Muzaffarnagar and flood victims in Kashmir..MEDIASTILL QUIET Considering this biased nature of media, it cannot be a tool to make judgements regarding the status of one of the highly esteemed universities in the nation. I would like to shed light on the fact that AMU is an institution that has been imparting education to females since 1922. Those were the times when females struggled for getting education and were not even considered humans, so to say, in our country. In addition, perhaps AMU is one of the few institutions in the country where harassment cases against women are negligible. Every institution is built on certain principles and the foundation of AMU has been to preserve the modest culture and provide a safe and ethical environment to students, girls and boys. I have been the student of Womens college, Abdullah Hall, which is the residence hall for high school and undergraduates women students. Inside the premises of Abdullah hall, there is a college library which holds mammoth number of books and is easily accessible for the resident as well as the non resident girls. Further, considering the contribution of internet in accessing course materials, there has been a recent development of computer labs and WiFi inside the college premises. Since the prime concern in the residence halls of AMU is safety and modesty of women, there are restrictions in leaving the premises of hall in late night hours. So, if the administrator of the university makes a statement to prevent the girls of undergraduate level from leaving the premises of the residence halls during late night hours to go to Maulana Azad library, he does the same thing as my father would do!
