The reinterpretation of Article IX of the Japanese constitution, which was pushed by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, isnt going to help relieve tensions in the Asia-Pacific region. But even if it isnt as radical as Mr. Abe and his cabinet wanted, allowing the Japanese Self-Defence Forces to support allied nations (under the condition that Japanese security itself is affected) has important implications going forward.
