The relevance of Marriage to the youth A marriage should signify the strong bond that exists between two intimately involved partners. When you marry someone you promise to love and live with that person for the rest of your life. ‘…In sickness and in health…’ Then where are the young people getting it wrong? Is marriage even relevant to them? I believe that a lot of factors have contributed to marriage seem like an out-dated practice, such as the lack of commitment, trust, communication, but to name a few. From what our research have learned is that marriages are not as easy as they seem in the fairy-tale movies. It requires a lot of thinking and maturity before entering into marriage. Main key points to be taken into consideration are: Self-introspection: understand who you are and what you want? What dreams and aspirations do you have? You cannot be with someone if you don’t know what you want! Know your partner: study your partner’s personality, dreams and beliefs and ask yourself can your own traits and your partner’s co-exist? You cannot marry someone you do not understand! Trust: Is your partner trustworthy enough that you would want to spend your entire life with them? Communication- it is vital that you have an honest communication with your partner. Do not just accept everything that they say so that you can make them happy. Be original and be yourself. Sacrifices: be prepared to make sacrifices for the survival of your marriage. Love is not enough: Love is one unstable feeling that makes us all human. Though it alone is not enough to sustain a marriage. There will be day, week’s even months that love goes out the window and makes you wonder ‘How did we get here?’ You must learn to sustain your love so that it does not fade away forever. Take your time: Time is precious; you need not to make rushed decisions. Lay down solid relationship foundation with your partner before you decide to marry them. Note: These are just a few points which we believe will guide you to the right direction and give you some insights about marriage.
