The report captures stories and strategies for change from 27 of our grantees around the world. Who Counts? includes lessons that these grantees have learnt from deploying different anti-violence strategies, often in contexts which are extremely challenging. The report emerged from a learning convening that Mama Cash held with grantees in 2012 as well as from internal reflections on how the anti-violence work of groups cuts across our grantmaking portfolios. As part of Mama Cash’s 30th anniversary this year, we are consciously reflecting on the impact and contributions of women’s rights movements around the globe to securing social change and justice. To this end, Who Counts? shows how our grantees are not only mobilising to resist gender-based violence in their contexts, but also are continuing to break new ground in defining, confronting, and drawing attention to forms and experiences of violence that have long been overlooked or deemed unimportant by communities, governments and social justice movements. The report highlights a range of strategies our grantees are using to address instances of violence, to influence other movements, and to advocate for changes in legislation, attitudes and values more broadly.
