The reporting of the Royal Commission is beyond a joke. Under cross examination, VicPol Assistant Commissioner Fontana admitted that, contrary to his statement of evidence, the “union officials” that his intelligence had told him were involved with OMCGs was in fact one un-financial member, “I got that wrong, I apologise.” He then went on to concede that no CFMEU official had ever been charged with blackmail, corruption or drug crimes. But the newspapers are only interested in waging an ideological war against the union movement and the CFMEU is the target because we’re the strongest. We all need to remember that the main game here is Canberra: we need to convince the cross-bench senators to vote down the ABCC legislation. As much as the Herald Sun would like to vote on legislation, it’s the Senators in Canberra who will have the last word. Our strategy has been focused on preventing the return of this terrible legislation in spite of this kangaroo court. That said, you can watch the highlights of the cross examination here. Its pretty bad.
