The right path Choose competent and honest rulers. Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate. The British whole leaving India did not give to the people of India independence. Actually they were leaving India with a heavy heart. The British had got best type of slaves here in India and therefore, actually they wanted to remain here as rulers. But since they had lost power all over the world, under compelling circumstances, they had to leave India. They were not happy with the people of India when some of them were wanting complete independence. Therefore, they were in a mood to take revenge from the people of India. While going out, they handed over charge of the country to a few selected by them. And the people who took over the charge adopted this line as a profession, trade, calling and employment and that is the reason, they had been joining their own kith and kin in the line. In spite of independence and in spite of democracy, we had been under family rule, party dictatorship and individual autocracy. It is on record that in spite of elections at intervals, we had been electing the same sets of people from amongst the kith and kin of the people in politics and could not bring people from amongst the people. The people who were in politics never tried to serve the people, rather, they were interested in recollecting what they had been spending in elections and for attaining power. People had to invest huge amounts to get power and therefore, instead of working for the welfare of the people, the people in power had to work for themselves. All these items of corruption, scams, scandals, muddles, commissions etc. etc. are new items which the politicians in power had to invent to collect huge amounts of money and therefore, the people in power had to connive with the rich and powerful people and they all started indulging in corrupt methods. Huge amounts had been collected by these people and we have been informed that huge amounts had been exported to other countries so that the amounts could be safe. In spite of elections, time and again, we are still under the rulers and in spite of passing decades, we are still slaves. The ruling classes are one and they are not serving the people. We would not expect better governments because till money collection remains the habit with the rulers, they would not like to leave the seats of power. This democracy is just a name and not implementation of complete concept of democracy. As and when we go to cast our votes, the same sets of people are standing as candidates before us and we have got no choice, but to elect the same sets of people. If the present situations go on, we shall never be able to elect people from amongst the people and we should not expect real democracy here in India. We should ask our universities to start courses for the politicians so that we could get competent people in the political field.
