The rivalry between Jubilee and CORD played out yet again Monday during the issuance of title deeds in Kwale County when President Uhuru Kenyatta accused Mr Raila Odinga of doing little to solve land problems at the Coast. 0 in Share KENYA; KWALE: The President was responding to Raila’s criticism of his role in the issuance of the titles. On Sunday, Raila accused the President of usurping the constitutional role of the National Land Commission by giving out titles; a job he said should be done by clerks. On Monday, Mr Kenyatta issued thousands of title deeds to squatters in Kwale and later flew to Voi, Taita Taveta County for the same purpose. The President also lashed out at the separatist Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) for opposing the titles’ issuance and warned that his administration will deal ruthlessly “with criminals.” Kenyatta, who was accompanied by his deputy William Ruto and other Jubilee luminaries including the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Lands and housing Charity Ngilu, urged CORD to keep off the land issue saying the leaders did nothing when they held the Land docket. “As we are working some are moving around engaging in politics and have already started calling me names not knowing that we are working for the public. If you did not solve anything then leave us alone. Pilipili usioila inakuashia nini? (Don’t mind about what does not concern you),” said the President. Uhuru seemed to be reading from the same script with his deputy who argued that CORD, allegedly wasted its time while in power and should instead give the Government ample time to sort out the land mess at theCoast. Ruto wondered how Raila could say the President was “doing clerical” work when during his tenure as a Prime Minister; he failed to order his clerks to do the same work. Genuine titles “These are people who are trying to salvage their diminishing fortunes. From the record, more land was dished out to individuals during the last two years to elections when they controlled the Lands Ministry,” alleged Ruto. The President, however, extended an olive branch to CORD leaders whom he said he was ready to work with. Among the other leaders who chastened CORD was Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko Mbuvi who returned a title deed for his piece of land in Kinondo, which he claimed to have bought and yet said it was fraudulently acquired as it belonged to others. Most of the local leaders who included Kwale governor Salim Mvurya, senator Boy Juma Boy, women representative Zainab Chidzuga and MPs Hassan Mwanyoha (Matuga), Suleiman Dori (Msambweni), Khatib Mwashetani (Lungalunga) and Gonzi Rai Kinango called on the Government to issue genuine titles. “We had been against this process because we were not clear of who the beneficiaries were,” said Mwanyoha, the Matuga MPThe rivalry between Jubilee and CORD played out yet again Monday during the issuance of title deeds in Kwale County when President Uhuru Kenyatta accused Mr Raila Odinga of doing little to solve land problems at the Coast. 0 in Share KENYA; KWALE: The President was responding to Raila’s criticism of his role in the issuance of the titles.
