The river crashes and foams as it runs roaring down its channel, Folding over itself, Waves crashing against its banks, Giant rocks cause the water to turn white as it churns in its path, I sit on a log overlooking the river, A little pool lies beneath me, It swirls mildly, being a haven of peaceful water, I feel the cool air coming from the river, Watching the alchemy of the water, Spray hits me every now and again, But I endure and enjoy the cooling sensation, A toad hops in the reeds to my right, Birds are chirping in the trees above my head, I sit there, watching the roaring river, feeling the air around me, A spider crawls onto the log, Its brown legs creating a show of fear, It scuttles into a hole in the log, Pausing on the rim before disappearing, Seemingly oblivious to the waters beyond, And the dampness in the air, I pick up a stick and start to break it into pieces, Watching the waters turn around the corner, I break the stick into more pieces, Wondering if theres any fish to be had, A giant boulder across the river glitters beneath the canopy of trees, A deer emerges from behind it and patiently studying me, Waiting for a sign of danger, It lays its ears down and trots off, I sigh, Watching the deer trot away and disappear, I return my gaze to the water, A giant swirling pool lay before me, I know its deep, The waters are mostly calm and dark, I grab my fishing pole and begin tying on a hook and heavy sinker, Worm fishing. I take out the worm from its little styrofoam tub, And begin to pierce it to the hook, Folding it over and over, Making sure it doesnt break free, I give a small cast into to the deep calm pool, And then I lay down my pole and stretch, I look around, But keep my eye on the pole. Ill get one here, I think. But theres always other places.
