The run up to zman simchataynu, the time of our joy, a.k.a. Sukkot - TopicsExpress

The run up to zman simchataynu, the time of our joy, a.k.a. Sukkot is always a marathon. Exhausted from the soul searching and writing of Elul, RH, the ten days and Yom Kippur, we dive right into the next spiritual project of building a sukkah and hosting friends and family. And for those of us who love the outdoors, this is one last farewell to sitting outside before a cold NE winter. It is always a bit funny for me when I see people this week and they say, I bet you are glad the holidays are over. Well, no on two accounts. First, they are not over. The best is yet to come. Long meals with friends, singing Hallel in shul, fragrant etrogim, a palm branch to remind me of date trees at Kibbutz Ketura, maybe a bit of etrog vodka, and more. Second, I love RH and YK because our People come out in force, looking to connect with God and with each other. I love that each year on the holidays I feel hopeful that one more person will return to shul next week or the week after, one more person will say to themselves that they want to bless our community with their light and their spiritual gifts, one more person will feel Gods Presence in a fragile little booth outside. I love the holidays-and I love this holiday of joy! This year I am excited about opening up my Sukkah, and I love that USY decorated it. I am exited about hearing Cantor Jeffrey S Weber lead us in prayer and song, I am excited to hear the Torah of my colleague Rabbi David Glanzberg-Krainin, I am excited to share my Torah. I am excited for our family service on Friday @11am- (for elem age kids and their families)! And nothing tops the Beth Sholom Sukkah walk! Join me Friday right after shul at about noon. We begin at the Beth Sholom Sukkah and make our way to several Sukkot in the area for apps, lunch, dessert and more. (walk or drive -all invited:) And to top it off: Fri Night Neshama service 5:45 -great snacks, AMAZING music and prayer. And there is more, Sat morning we celebrate the bat mitzva of a wonderful girl! I hope that there is some joy this week in your life-and that you bring joy to others. Chag Sahmayach!
