The saddest thing happened today at work or so I thought, a man - TopicsExpress

The saddest thing happened today at work or so I thought, a man sitting in the breakroom room was speaking about conspiracy theories and speaking about them as if it were truth, soliciting everyone trying to convince them that he had stumbled upon this esoteric knowledge; everyone should know about. What stood out to me is he repeatedly said he was educated/educating himself. And admittedly Ive gone through my believe anything I read on the internet phase, in my defense that was apart of my intellectual maturing. But I digress. Ive noticed many men and woman usually poor or low income seem to think random conspiracies is educating themselves. It made me ponder what is real education? And could conspiracy theories on the internet be the new language in which the poor speak? Similar to the myths and legends common people use to speak in medieval Europe? Is the Illuminati our version of Loch Ness monster? There is a deficit in real substantial education, based off of academic, logic and reasoning, references, sources, and critical thinking. The more and more people who believe in these theories the more I think about the lack of education, lack of access to whole foods, lack of access to work and affordable living. Is this the impact of poverty? Theres no access to affordable education, no good food, no affordable living, and no opportunities to advance oneself. And if there are opportunity, people are dealing with mental illness and other various struggles brought on by poverty. Upon researching the link between poverty and the willingness to believe conspiracy theories, I stumbled upon someone commenting that hes not his brothers keeper and that its not his responsibility to look after the poor. My response is: Do you know the cost? The cost is a generation(s) of people who cant reason or rationalize basic concepts. A generation(s) vulnerable to mental illness, pain & suffering. An increase in hysteria (which isnt helped by things like Fox News) An increase in violence, and an increase in drug use. Statistically speaking people who are impoverished will be at an increase procreating, only to pass down poverty and suffering to another generation(s) repeating the cycle. It is becoming more apparent that we as a species are much better off caring for one another, than neglecting each other, even today in the 21st century with our cars, iphones, Facebook, Mcdonalds, and other luxuries, we still need each other after millions of years of evolution were still dependent of one another.... So initially I sat judging the man soliciting me and everyone else to believe in the Illuminati, but than again can you blame him? If anything his touting of the irrational, is really him communicating his need for contact, and the deficiency to receive it in our culture.
