The safest way to dry gourds is to hang them. That way the air can circulate all around them, speeding the drying process while preventing rotten spots. You can also dry your gourds on a shelf or drying rack, but youll want to turn them frequently to prevent rot on the sides the air doesnt reach. When hanging your gourds, you can either tack them up with a nail through the stem, or if you dont have much stem left, you can use ladies fishnet stockings as pictured here. Just cut them into sections to fit each one and tie them off. You can usually hang 2 to 4 gourds per stocking depending on the size of the gourds, or the stockings. Hard, crafting varieties like these bottle gourds may take several months to dry, while luffas should be much quicker.
