The saga over the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council - TopicsExpress

The saga over the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC) has blown up in the PAP’s face as they are trying hard to salvage what they can. It would now seem that no matter how hard the MND tries, it would only further expose the politics that places the WP on uneven playing ground. As the PAP’s feeble attempts can no longer hold ground, the mainstream media has also suddenly jumped into the fray. It was reported by Today today that it interviewed 30 residents in the AHPETC who wanted answers on the S&CC arrears. Channel NewsAsia then also carried the report. However, what Today and Channel NewsAsia also did not report was that the AHPETC already lets its residents pay the one of the lowest S&CC. The PAP-run town councils charge their residents more. Also, in light of the political attempts at “fixing” the WP, this means that even as the WP provide the full picture, it would not be possible to know how external influences have caused the anti-WP elements in the AHPETC to sabotage the WP. Moreover, as economic blogger and analyst Leong Sze Hian had asked, “Why not just give the breakdown of the types of flats in the opposition and PAP town councils, and the changes before and after the last elections due to boundary changes?” “Why not give the historical year-to-year total government grants and the breakdown into the different funds, for opposition and PAP town councils, so that the people can see and judge for themselves?” Why only give half-baked answers that is intended to put the WP in bad light? Also, is it not hypocritical that when answers are demanded, the PAP and MND does not give the full answers as well? The story is now becoming complicated. But it is now also becoming more obvious how the WP has been pushed into the corner by the PAP. The PAP started the fire but it can no longer put it out.
