The saga with the recovery facility continues. I got a call from - TopicsExpress

The saga with the recovery facility continues. I got a call from one of Theos cousins that they were at the facility and brought some food with them. I had a friend coming down from L.A. to help me to deal with this place, so I told her Id meet her there in an hour. They had not been told about last nights ordeal and were quite shocked and angered by it. We got a lot of information from the sitter who was hired to be with him. She doesnt work for the facility. They use the company she works for to do that kind of work, so basically, babysitting, not therapy, but she was willing to help get him talking more and was a very nice girl. The person she took over for (who had the previous shit) brought out a clipboard to write what her activities were for every hour she is there. She said that was new today and it must be because of us. We were all on the patio with Theo having lunch when I noticed several people looking out the window and pointing towards us. I took my friend and followed them inside. It turns out to be the guys who run the place, so we followed them in to the head guys office and I introduced myself and asked him what he knew about last night. What he had been told and what really happened were a bit different stories, so I took him back to the beginning and said I want to file a formal complaint about your admitting nurse and went from there. His response was that he didnt know why Theo was sent there in the first place if he was a flight risk and they should have been told. I said, I told your nurse a couple of times and her response was that shed put an alarm bracelet on him. He said, well, we cant always respond to every alarm immediately and anyone could have opened the door coming in and he could get out at that point and the alarm wouldnt sound. I told him he only got that bracelet AFTER I found him and brought him back, so his nurse was negligent, had a bad attitude from the get-go, didnt bother to clean him up when he was bleeding from the shot she gave and I had to chase her down to give her paperwork. The guy in charge of the nursing staff was also in the room and they said theyd deal with it. I then said I wanted to move Theo to another facility and the family agrees. He gave me this song and dance about no other facility would take him since he walked away. I said if he had the bracelet on in the first place he wouldnt have gone anywhere. He brought in his case worker who has a listening problem and tries to talk around you telling us that they arent equipped to meet his needs. I asked if they had a speech therapist and a physical therapist. She said yes. I said thats what hes here for. Then she goes on about who can they release him to (a responsible party) since they cant send him home. I said, when are you thinking about sending him home? As soon as the doctor thinks hes ambulatory enough. Ambulatory, meaning he can walk on his own? I asked. So what about his head problems? We dont deal with psychological problems, was the answer. I said he understands everything thats said to him in 4 languages. He just cant completely reply right now. He can write words, remember names and numbers, etc. He couldnt do that 3 days ago. So, youd basically kick him out after some doctor says he can walk, but not communicate? This went back and forth until the guy in charge cut in and asked who was the closest relative (brother back east) so they could contact him and he could sign some papers so they could try and make the transfer to the facility near me. Then they all scurried away and closed their doors. I noticed yesterdays admissions nurse coming out of the head guys office awhile later with a weird smile on her face. Dont know what that meant. But they never opened the doors again while we were there for another hour. So complaints are going to be filed. Im going over to the facility near me to scout it out and plead for his going there. Good news. Theo was happy his family was there. Talked quite a bit in Chinese and English and ate a lot of food. Bad news is it looks like he fell down last night at some point because his wrist is hurting, his ankle is swollen and he has bruises on the leg on the same side as well as what looks like scratch marks from a bush. Any more this poor guy can go through? We left him after he went back to his bed and fell asleep.
