The science itself, in which [Richard Dawkins (the Selfish Gene, the God Delusion)] thesis is rooted, has been misrepresented. Neither does it make sense [..] to say that genes are selfish. That is mere anthropomorphism, not of the creative and heuristic kind [...] but of the kind we have long been warned against. We cannot hope to understand our fellow creatures [...] without being anthropomorphic, at least in a disciplined way. But anthropomorphism applied for rhetorical purposes to non-sentient entities, like lengths of DNA, is merely sensationalist. Sensationalism too may well have a place in human discourse - but not in the context of what claims to be science. theecologist.org/reviews/books/1993361/why_genes_are_not_selfish_and_people_are_nice.html
