The second and final reading on an ordinance to prohibit the sale and distribution of electronic vaping devices to minors, and prohibiting the purchase and possession by minors, is Item 2F on the Monday, July 21 city council agenda, bit.ly/1pkUmmR. The ordinance passed 6-0 on first reading at the July 7 meeting. The proposed ordinance creates a definition for an electronic vaping device, as well as defines an offense if a person sells or gives an electronic vaping device to a minor. As written, the person could be an attendant of a store or any other person that aids in the purchase or delivery of a device with the intent to deliver or provide it to a minor. It also makes it an offense for a minor to possess, purchase, or attempt to purchase an electronic vaping device. The proposed ordinance does not restrict the operation of a business location for electronic cigarettes.
