The second way to see our daily lives begin to look a little more - TopicsExpress

The second way to see our daily lives begin to look a little more like Captain America’s is to: Learn from Jesus. Jesus is the greatest example of humility that ever lived. The New Testament writer, the Apostle Paul described Jesus’s humility this way: Dont be selfish; dont live to make a good impression on others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourself. Dont think only about your own affairs, but be interested in others, too, and what they are doing. Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. He made himself nothing; he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. And in human form he obediently humbled himself even further by dying a criminals death on a cross. Philippians 2:3-8 (NLT) The third way to become more like Captain America, to move from Pride Deserves to Humility Serves is to: Dismantle Bad Pride. You may be thinking, isn’t some pride okay? Aren’t we supposed to be prideful about our family, work, and even our country? A Rabbi and a New England Minister were getting to know one another. Proudly, the minister exclaimed, One of my ancestors signed the Declaration of Independence. I understand your pride, responded the rabbi. One of my ancestors signed the Ten Commandments. Pastor Ed shares this story: Of course the other morning after Helen woke up I told her, Honey, I want to confess a great sin. What is it? she asked. The sin of pride, I answered, Earlier this morning I sat for an hour in front of the mirror admiring how handsome I am. Honey,” she said, thats not a sin of pride, thats a sin of imagination. :D On Dictionary we find pride defined as a high or inordinate opinion of ones own dignity, importance, merit, or superiority. So replace bad pride with a healthy pride. Here is Pastor Eds description of healthy pride: A confident Realism that expresses commitment to, thankfulness for, and courageous resolve for our family, country, community, and achievements. Jesus again helps us get our arms around the kind of family members, employees, husbands, wives, parents, children we are supposed to be as we recognize that Pride Deserves, Humility Serves: He called a meeting to focus on this point that Humility Serves: But Jesus called them together and said, You know that in this world kings are tyrants, and officials lord it over the people beneath them. But among you it should be quite different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must become your slave. For even I, the Son of Man, came here not to be served but to serve others, and to give my life as a ransom for many. Matthew 20:25-28 (NLT) Jesus tells us the true leader is the servant leader! The true leader doesn’t pridefully Lord it over others, but humbly serves others and even does so sacrificially. Our Hero, Captain America personifies this kind of humility, being a servant leader willing to give his life for the many. At the end of the movie he is faced with saving New York City or saving himself and returning to the girl he loves. Lets watch him make the ultimate sacrifice of a servant leader. Remember, pride deserves, but humility serves.
