The service is rather a very important aspect of the game, without a correct service no rally can take place. From experience, the service rule when implemented by the umpire often arouses dissatisfaction among players when faulted. To simplify the SERVICE RULE (2.6), players ought to know and ensure that the ball; 1) Rests freely on an OPEN PALM (NOT on the fingers) of the server’s stationary free hand. 2) Is NOT tossed from BELOW THE PLAYING SURFACE and NOT from INSIDE THE ENDLINE. 3) Is tossed to a minimum height of 16cm after leaving the palm of the free hand and then falls without touching anything before being struck. 4) Is tossed near vertically upwards without imparting any form of spin. 5) Is not hidden from the receiver by the servers arm, shoulder, head, doubles partner or anything he/she wears or carries. 6) Is struck during its downward movement when still above the playing surface and behind the end line. 7) Is struck such that it touches first the server’s court and then after passing over or around the net assembly touches directly the receiver’s court. In doubles the ball shall touch successively the right half court of the server and receiver. Please find below a short 5 minute video showing different forms of illegal service.
