The shops are getting ready for Xmas (1936). Its wonderful to be in Germany for Xmas. To-day Is Eintopf Sontag, which means that every person in the whole of Germany Is expected to have a simple Sunday dinner, cooked in one pot (like a stew or thick soup or casserole). The money that each person saves on such a dinner is to be given to a fund which provides for people in need. A collector comes to your door and you pay him the money. Even the collections are done voluntarily. All National Socialists (or Nazis, as the* papers in Australia call them) do all this work in their spare tme. Their wives also make clothes, collect, cook, etc.. and care for poor and sick mothers and children No Poverty Under Hitler Since Hitler has been in. power, they have not had one person cold or hungry or homeless in Germany, and in Kiel there is not one person who can work who is unemployed. It is amazing when one considers the misery, crime, and poverty before Hitler. There are no strikes. Ive never seen a drunken man or any trouble of any kind since I have been here. But on the wireless every night In other . countries one hears of strikes, riots revolutions, etc. On our own wireless -which, by the way, cost 75/-we can hear any country in Europe, and they nearly all have a certain time for broadcasting in English. In England there are hunger marches and strikes all over the country-in France too, and in America, and the sooner the reds are driven out of Spain the better for the rest of the world. There are people here, refugees from Spain, and the tales of horror they have to tell make one think one is living in the dark ages. And to think that, if nothing is done to stop her, Russia will have the rest of the world in the same plight-but not Germany; she has had one taste of Communism; shes not going to be bitten twice.
