The sign atop Evanss Drug Store (presumably the second floor) reads Eastern College of Painless Dentistry. Apparently, this was not a real school at all. We took the matter into court, made a protest against their obtaining a charter and defeated them. They threatened to go to New Jersey or Delaware and obtain a charter there. It is simply a lot of disreputable practitioners who wish to run a big advertising concern. Look out for them.” “In the Court of Common Pleas No. 3, of Allegheny County, PA., No. 254 May term, 1900. In re-incorporation of the Eastern College of Painless Dentistry. Notice is hereby given that an application will be made to the said court on Saturday, the 31st day of March, 1900, at 10 o’clock a. m., by W.S. Yates, I.E. Josephs, J. A. Taylor, F.E. Sullivan recently began suit against the Eastern College of Painless Dentistry of Philadelphia to recover two thousand dollars damages for injuries to her mouth and face. She claimed that the company filed down a sound tooth and put a gold cap on it instead of a decayed tooth which had caused her much pain. She also complained that the dentist filled another tooth in such an unskillful and negligent manner that the filling fell out in a short time. Gardiner, of Philadelphia, Chairman of the Committee for the Enforcement of Law of the Pennsylvania State Dental Society, has asked Attorney-General Carson to file a suggestion for a writ of quo warranto against the Eastern College of Painless Dentistry, to compel it to show by what authority it is engaged in conducting the practice of dentistry. The Attorney-General has set March 30 for a hearing. A hearing was had at the Attorney Generals Department yesterday afternoon on the application of the State Dental Association for a writ of quo warranto against the Eastern College of Painless Dentistry of Philadelphia, to compel it to show why its business in this State should not be discontinued because it, is not living up to the objects of its charter.
