"The simplistic logic is that public opinion polls and the mass media should determine who should lead the Federal Labor Government. A critical context for this is the destabilisation campaign of the Murdoch Press since 2010 against the Labor Government and Prime Minister Julia Gillard and the impact this has on polls – the unrelenting theme of negativity despite the facts and a theme that Mr. Rudd should return as Prime Minister because he is more popular and that the Labor Party is foolish in not returning to Mr. Rudd. It is beyond Mr. Van Onselen’s insight, apparently, that the Prime Minister has a different preference for remaining Prime Minister such as her personal commitments to the Government’s policies and her success in negotiating and maintaining a Minority Government in power and her unwilklingness to give-way to the Ruddite “boys” in the Labor Caucus and the mass media who are uncomfortable with the gender of the Prime Minister." australiasmassmedia/2013/06/19/a-trivial-insight
