The situation with Austin Wintory and #AFM is a lot like - TopicsExpress

The situation with Austin Wintory and #AFM is a lot like #saveWRAS. The AFM is attempting to fine its member, Austin Wintory, $50,000 because he did a job without union sanction. AFM issued the Video Game/Interactive Media Agreement (VIMA), in 12/2012, but virtually every employer rejected it and it has resulted in zero jobs for AFM members that compose scores for video games! The VIMA was negotiated and made binding to AFM members without any input from AFM members, yet AFM members pay the price by losing income from a major industry, or risking AFM prosecution if they take the work like Austin Wintory. Similarly, #GSU administration entered into a contract that is binding to students without any input from students, yet students pay the price by losing learning and work opportunities gained by access to analog air waves, or risking disciplinary action if they interfere. It is likely the music industry will reject the decision to switch format of the #1 college radio station in the nation from independent music to news and information during the most meaningful programming hours of the daytime. Moreover, the decision will reduce the likelihood that the music or broadcasting industries will offer internships or jobs to those students, who cannot gain any meaningful experience while in school. What will it take to motivate AFM to renegotiate an agreement that actively involves its members and allows them to vote whether to be bound by terms that impact their ability to earn a living? What will it take for GSU to renegotiate a deal that actively involves students and allows them to vote whether to use a student-funded resource for activities that ultimately impact their ability to earn a living? youtu.be/jqvraGNfKVY
