The sixth of seven things Im grateful for in 2014: Grand Rapids Public Schools. In spite of so many challenges, our school district has continued trying new things and improving on what theyre already great at. Our kids have gained so much from their ongoing education and programs that are offered. I feel like GRPS has a lot in common with President Obama: both are faced with critics who never really wanted to see them succeed; but, both keep doing the right thing, focused on the future and making it better. And both continue impacting real lives in underserved communities like our own, right where we live, and we see it everyday. Whatever people say on Mlive or elsewhere, here on the ground its making a difference -- grateful for many fellow parents whove stuck with it, and engaged with the system hands-on, to make it stronger. Were proud to be part of it.
