The smell of birth; I can hardly remember. I wont lie, Ive been - TopicsExpress

The smell of birth; I can hardly remember. I wont lie, Ive been in a slump the last few days, busy on what not and simply taking the time not to stare at the internet and simply to not engage with the world. Sometimes its easier that way. You could say my existence has almost been reclusive, embryonic to a point. Ive comfortably wrapped myself in my own home and retreated to the shell and cocoon of my bedroom to take comfort in the warm sensory deprivation, to embrace consistency and the sense of security that comes with it. It is a sense of safety; of unknowing; of allowing the world to pass you by while you lay oblivious to it. It is a truly wonderful thing which is ultimately free of thought; a state of dependency without worry of responsibility and risk decided entirely by out of body circumstances and force majeure. But it is incomplete and merely an excerpt in the grand story of life. Indeed such an existence prolonged is ultimately pointless and a great waste of opportunity and resource that could be served to someone more needy and desiring of life. So I guess todays featured painting is a great and appropriate wake up call. Its entitled, The Smell of Birth by New Delhi artist Bappaditya-RC. artradio.tv/bappaditya-rc/ This is a very strong portfolio that produces some intense emotions and reactions when viewed around the artradio.tv offices and this is a very intense piece. Considering some relatively recent conclusions that the human nose could potentially detect up to 1 trillion different smells, the diversity and variety of this piece in the context of birthing seems fitting. To leave that state of nothingness to suddenly experience gravity, light, sound, caress and smell is a literal bombardment of data for the human mind. This abstraction is befitting of that title and shows a synaesthetists ability to interpret this field of commonly overlooked nasal sensoria and bring it to our visual attention beautifully. I guess the point Im trying to make is that as long as your alive you cant ignore the outside world forever and often in our lowest moods it is easy to forget how much depth it has. Paintings like this which I initially confused for a city remind me of that. Bappaditya-RC has the perfect ability to encapsulate emotions with his pictures as this canvas demonstrates. In particular a painting entitled, Suspicion is the perfect pictorial representation of intrigue, betrayal, covetousness and paranoia whilst a similarly styled canvas called, love is its beautiful opposite; employing the same characters yet in the most vivid and cartoony sense portraying a complex dependency and sense of shared intimacy. They are works truly worth seeing if only to immerse yourself in the wonderful land of bright colours and sharp circles that Bappaditya-RC has constructed. Youll have fun feeling his work; we did!
