The snow glows white on the mountain tonight. Not a footprint to be seen. A kingdom of isolation and it looks like Im the one to begin my next movie review, which is on the latest computer-animated Walt Disney Pictures feature film not made by Pixar Animation Studios called “Frozen (2013).” This is the 53rd theatrical film in the Walt Disney animated feature canon and the 5th one overall to be entirely computer-animated. This also recently won two Academy Awards last March for Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature! It’s the first Walt Disney animated picture to win any kind of Oscar since “Tarzan (1999)” won for Best Original Song at the 72nd Annual Academy Awards! And “Frozen (2013)” is additionally the first non-Pixar Disney film to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature! Now, for those of you out there who have been wondering all this time, no, this film is not a remake, nor is it related to that Adam Green independent suspense-thriller flick from 2010 called “Frozen (2010).” I’ve actually seen that version of “Frozen (2010)” once a few years ago and I did think that it was a very good, but flawed, movie. This “Frozen (2013),” on the other hand, was a lot better, had very few flaws, and was even in shown in a 3-D format that I recently viewed in the theater! That’s right, folks! This version of “Frozen (2013)” was a friggin’ fantastic motion picture! Honestly, this is probably well on it’s way to becoming an instant Disney classic! As some of you may have already guessed, this film is indeed inspired by a fairy tale from the 1840’s called “The Snow Queen” by Hans Christen Andersen, who also wrote another fairy tale called “The Little Mermaid,” which, over time, got itself made into a critically-acclaimed, Oscar-winning, Disney animated feature, as well! Back to “Frozen (2013),” though, this film has made over $400 million in the United States, alone, and it is the highest grossing animated film of all-time around the world! It surpassed every DreamWorks animated movie, every Pixar movie, and even every single Disney animated movie! It’s also currently the 6th highest grossing film, in general, worldwide! Impressive record-breaking statistics, isn’t it? But, enough about that for now, let’s get on with the review! Here I stand in the light of day! Let the storm rage on as I proceed to type about what the large amount of good stuff was first! To start with, the music and songs in this film by songwriting couple Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez were amazingly catchy and very well-composed! I dont think these were the most memorable songs ever made for a Disney animated flick, but I thought they were catchy enough for a lot of people to remember them in the many years to come! In fact, some of the songs could be worthy of a possible future volume set in the “Disney’s Sing-Along Songs” series! My favorite song in the movie was, of course, the Oscar-winning melody, “Let It Go” sung by Adele Dazeem. Whoops! I’m sorry! I meant sung by Idina Menzel. Silly me, how could I have messed that up? It’s not like I had a starring role in a 2000 sci-fi film called “Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000,” that caused me to type something like that! Am I right?! In any case, I’ve been listening to that song constantly ever since I saw and heard it in the theater! Believe it or not, that tune kind of reminded me of that Golden Globe-winning song from “Burlesque (2010)” called “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me,” which was my favorite song from THAT movie! In fact, “Let It Go” may eventually be considered as a classic Disney song and it’s recent Oscar win will certainly help with that! I personally don’t think it was quite as good as other previous Disney tunes Ive heard like “I2I” from “A Goofy Movie,” Under the Sea from The Little Mermaid (1989), or more principally, “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from “The Lion King,” but on it’s own, I still think it’s a very good song that’s worth listening to over and over again! Next off, just when you thought we have enough characters in the Disney Princess franchise, this time around, we get two princesses for one! Except, in this film, one of them becomes a queen and doesnt get herself a love interest! Moreover, unlike previous Disney queen characters, where theyre just depicted as the villain, this particular one is not a bad guy! Shes just shown as misunderstood! That’s not only amazing, but it’s also incredibly rare for a Disney film to do that! I gotta give a big kudos to these people! I also saw this in 3-D and it was… decent in that format. The opening musical number, “Frozen Heart,” looked great in 3-D, “Let It Go” also took advantage of the 3-D technology for a few moments, and whenever it snowed, it was sometimes effective when it was blowing all over the place. So, my main thought on the 3-D in this movie is that unless you’re a hardcore 3-D enthusiast, I personally don’t think it’s really worth seeing in that format. Like I typed before, the 3-D wasn’t bad, it was just decent. It worked a few times, just not all the time. Yeah. The animation, on the other hand, was really damn good! From what I saw, it wasn’t quite up to Pixar quality, but you know what, I think it comes pretty close! The characters, and particularly the backgrounds, looked especially gorgeous! Anysnow, the majority of characters in this movie were very good, the two sisters in this movie looked very pretty for big-eyed cartoon characters, I liked the spin they put on not marrying someone you just met, without giving too much away, there were two twists near the end of the film that I really liked, and one of the twists put a new spin on true love, so to speak, the story was also good and easy to follow, the voice acting and singing was very stellar, and I know this movie is animated, but I really liked the dresses that a lot of the female characters were wearing. I’m not a huge clothing expert and I know this is an animated film, but I really love the designs of the dresses and outfits that I saw! Cut through the heart, cold and clear. Strike for love and strike for fear as I progress to type about what the bad stuff was in this movie is next! Now, if I had to find any sort of faults with the movie, it would be in two very minor details. The first fault is that after Princess Anna falls in love with Prince Hans and immediately falls in love with him, Anna later meets Kristof who she immediately dislikes, but then over time, they start to like each other more and more, and, lets not forget, it is a Disney film! What do think is eventually going to happen to the both of them? Yeah, it was somewhat predictable on that subplot, but I still accepted it thanks to those two twists at the end! The second fault that I found in this movie is dolefully with that midget snowman, Olaf. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Olaf and I liked his musical number, “In Summer!” And some of the jokes that he told did make me laugh a few times, but during the times when he mentions his butt, or that one scene where he was impaled on a big ice pick, it felt immature to the point where I didnt find it funny, but not to the point where it was painful to listen to. I still enjoyed a good chunk of what Olaf had to offer! Overall, in Arendelle, I loved “Frozen (2013)!” This was absolutely a true Disney animated film done to a very high caliber! Even though this was so obviously made with computer-animation technology throughout it, it did actually remind me a lot of the other 2-D animated films with Disney Princesses in them like “Beauty and the Beast (1991),” “Aladdin (1992),” and again, “The Little Mermaid (1989)!” It’s painfully clear that a lot of time and effort was put into the making of this movie regarding it’s writing, songs, characters, story, animation, and plot twists! Not to mention a great word-of-mouth that has now made this the highest grossing animated film in the entire world! In terms of Disney’s animated features in general, it’s surprisingly better than a good number of their 2-D animated films like “The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996),” “The Aristocats,” “Hercules (1997),” “The Princess and the Frog,” “A Goofy Movie,” “The Rescuers,” “Make Mine Music,” “Melody Time,” etc. I still enjoy all of those films even to this day, just so you all know that! In terms of their 3-D animated films, this IS the best out of all five of them, hands down! Let’s just hope that the next Disney computer-animated feature, “Big Hero 6,” will be as amazing and entertaining as “Frozen (2013)” was! Hell, Frozen (2013) was even better than Pixars Monsters University, which was released that very same year! And I thought Monsters U was already a great film on its own terms! Speaking more of “Frozen (2013),” this has been released on DVD, Blu-ray, and Digital Copy for more than a month now, and if you haven’t picked this up on either of those formats yet, I strongly recommend that you do that wherever and whenever you get the chance! Trust me, the whole family will enjoy it immensely, and I’m confident that you will really enjoy it, too! On the basis of this movie getting a possible sequel made, I would really love to see one! Although, I don’t know if that will happen even after the Lopezs announced at the 86th Annual Academy Awards that they want to do one. However, I heard that according to Disney CEO Bob Iger, “Frozen (2013)” has real franchise potential and there have even been rumors that Disney Theatrical Productions is in the early development stages of making a Broadway stage musical adaptation of this film! I’m open to see that happen, especially since certain parts had a bit of a Broadway touch to them! Regardless, we shall see if this is eventually going to become a thing or maybe not! Only time will tell! All right, you princes and princesses out there, thank you once again for reading another one of my “cool” movie reviews, I will build my own midget snowman in order for it to type more reviews for me in the future, and just so you know, the cold never bothered me, anyway! As a special bonus, I am going to give you a link to a video where the song Let It Go is translated into multiple languages from all across the world! Enjoy and be amazed!: youtube/watch?v=BS0T8Cd4UhA
