The so-called spaghetti westerns were something of a phenomenon in the film industry. When westerns were dying out in Hollywood in the 60s, the Italians came out with their own brand of westerns, which enjoyed popularity during the 60s and 70s. A large number of Italian westerns were made, and some of them were big box office successes. One of the big reasons for the successes was Clint Eastwood. The Italians loved him and were able to sign him up for several movies. One of the more successful ones was The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Its surprising how good the Italians were at making westerns. Many Americans did not realize they were watching an Italian made film until they were told.
