The solution that North and Swartz advocate here is of a far more radical nature: they argue that the working class of Crimea must join with the Ukrainian and Russian working classes, and all working classes in every country, in doing no less than overthrowing capitalism itself, in order to build world socialism. So their solution is quite a bit different than the conventional Realpolitik/ethnic politics options of picking a side. For the ICFI this matter is urgent, because imperialist tensions could lead to the outbreak of war. And they see the working class as the missing actor in the recent events in the Ukraine. Instead, fascist thugs, oligarchs (either pro or anti Russian) and imperialists are the actors. And they draw the analogy between Ukraine and WW1 quite clearly. Genuine socialist consciousness must be cultivated, worldwide, in order to arm workers to act. So thats the ICFIs perspective, and its rather frightening. The quality of the analysis on the WSWS is such that they deserve to be taken seriously, whatever one personally makes of these events.(Mark WooD,a reader of WSWS) •
