The solution to Africa’s backwardness Africans have so many - TopicsExpress

The solution to Africa’s backwardness Africans have so many excuses: Oh it is the heat of the sun – the closer you’re to the equator the weaker you work. Oh, it’s the curse of Ham by Noah – we must be descendants of Ham. Oh, it’s colonization – there’s something being ruled against your consent does to your dignity. Oh, it’s the language we speak – all great nations rose with their own indigenous languages. Oh it’s the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade – no people have been so subjugated as were the blacks. Oh, it’s the education they gave to us – remember Ibadan was a university essentially set up for the Classics, and not Engineering and the Sciences which were what we needed. Oh, it’s the immediate colonial politics of handing power over to a more illiterate, less prepared ethnic group, as they did in Nigeria and Kenya. Oh, it’s the role of the Breton Wood institutes – World Bank, IMF – whose setting up was primarily to manacle Africa. I think we should organize all those excuses into one body of learning, like we have Physics and Economics, designate it Excuse, and make it a course of study, so some Africans can have a choice of reading Excuses and forget about combining it with their certificated course of study.
