The sources of Atiku Abubakars funds are dubious and crooked. The United States got tough and rough and blocked the wires through which stolen monies are sent into American banks by Atiku Abubakar. Atiku Abubakar is not your typical presidential candidate. Atiku is a desperate, determined and dogged man with his footprints in all the wrong places, particularly in the United States of America where he has been funneling ill-gotten and stolen funds in the tens of millions of dollars largely through wire transfers. His usual funneling pipe has remained his fourth wife, Jennifer (A/KA Jemila) Douglas Abubakar. Jennifer-Jemila has variously described herself at different times to US authorities as unemployed, homemaker, and at times as a student. The United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs in its recent report titled Keeping Foreign Corruption out of the United States: Four Case Histories began the section of the report dealing with Atiku Abubakar, Abubakar Case Study: Using Offshore Companies to Bring Suspect Funds into the United States with a short introduction of Atiku and his forth wife: Jennifer Douglas Abubakar, a U.S. citizen is the forth wife of Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria and a former candidate for the Presidency of Nigeria. This case history examines how, from 2000 to 2008, Ms. Douglas helped her husband bring over $40 million in suspect funds into the United States, including at least $1.7 million in bribe payments from Siemens AG, a German corporation, and over $38 milion from little known offshore corporations, primarily LetsGo Ltd. Inc., Guernsey Trust Company Nigeria Ltd., and Sima Holdings Ltd …. Over half of the suspect funds, nearly $25 million were wire transferred by the offshore corporations into U.S. bank accounts with opened by Ms. Douglas …. Bank records indicate that Ms. Douglas used most of the funds placed into her accounts to support a lavish lifestyle in the United States, paying credit card bills and household expenses in the range of $10,000 to $90,000 per month …. Over the years, questions have been raised about the source of Mr. Abubakars wealth. He spent twenty years in the Nigerian Customs Service, and then worked in the private sector for ten years, before serving as Vice President of Nigeria from 1999 to 2007. While Vice President, Mr. Abubakar was the subject of corruption allegations relating to the Nigerian Petroleum Technology Development Fund. In December 2008, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission alleged in a formal complaint against Siemens AG, a German company, that among other actions, in 2001 and 2002, Siemens wire transferred $2.8 million in bribe payments to a U.S. bank account belonging to Ms. Douglas as part of a scheme to bribe Nigerian officials.” The story of Atiku Abubakar is one loaded with deals and corruption. As a Nigerian Customs Service officer, Atiku left behind an unenviable record, one he wishes will go away, but rather has followed him and haunted him. He is said to worth over $2 billion with most of the money hidden away in the Cayman Island, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates where Jennifer-Jemila is now located after it became difficult to open new bank accounts following her designation as Politically Exposed Person (PEP). Atiku himself was also placed by the United States government on the list of Specially Designated Nationals (The OFAC SDN), a list made up of corrupt politicians, terrorist financiers, mafia lords and similar miscreants around the world. The United States got tough and rough and blocked the wires through which stolen monies are sent into American banks by Atiku Abubakar. Jennifer-Jemila Abubakar opened more than thirty different banks accounts with several American banks and used them primarily to receive wired funds from suspicious sources and dubious partners. She received over $10 million from Guernsey Trust Company between 2003 and 2008. About $27 million was also wired into the United States for Atiku Abubakar by a business partner of his, Mr. Gabriele Volpi. Of this amount nearly $8 million was wired through Jennifer-Jemilas account, $5.5 million into the American University of Nigeria (AUN) account (Atikus private university in his home town) and $13.1 million into the American University in Washingtons accounts. It Mr. Volpi told the U.S. Subcommittee that LetsGo and Sima Holdings sent millions of dollars to Ms. Douglas in connection with Mr. Abubakars ownership interest in Intels and a line of credit that LetsGo had extended to the Abubakar Blind Trust. The sources of Atiku Abubakars funds are dubious and crooked. His hands are far from clean and he has absolutely nothing to offer the Nigerian people beside taking another shot at the national treasury and looting it. If the business Atiku was invited to join in 1989 by Mr. Volpi, Nigeria Container Services Inc. (NICOTES) is making so much money there is no evidence to back up that claim. NICOTES is said to be an oil logistics company and there is little or no evidence that the company is making or previously made so much money from any decent work. Beside the fact that Atiku Abubakar is corrupt and unworthy as a politician, he has very little education and is therefore poorly equipped to even lead a local government. But Atiku is not alone in this regard; majority of the half-baked politicians who are pretending to be leaders of the Nigerian people are also poorly educated and largely ignorant. It is not just corruption that is at the heart of the Nigerian problem and poor leadership, poor education or the lack of it has also been a major factor. The only reasonable education Atiku earned was a diploma in law from Ahmadu Bello University! He rose to the rank of Deputy Director of Customs largely on the back of his Northern heritage and background. Over a period of eight years Jennifer-Jemila Atiku-Abubakar opened various accounts at different banks in Maryland for the purpose of receiving and helping to launder funds. The accounts opened included several personal accounts at Citibank, Chevy Chase Bank, Wachovia Bank, Eagle Bank, and Suntrust Bank, credit card accounts, brokerage accounts (with Citibankss Smith Barney affiliate), home equity account, Gede Foundation accounts, AUN (ABTI American University in Nigeria) account, and safe deposit boxes. She was obsessed with opening bank accounts and loved the benefits that accrue to her. The three (3) Siemens wire transfers were paid into Jennifer E. Douglas account #52096374 on 4/12/2001 ($450,703.79), 10/01/2001 ($461,440.92) and on 1/28/2002 ($860,500), for a total of $1,772,644.71. Additional $2 million kickback payments were also confirmed to have been made to Atiku Abubakar through his wife over a three year period from 2000 to 2003. She received these additional funds through J.E. Douglas Steradian Co. UK L, J.E. Douglas and Peniel Inc. UK Ltd. Wire transfers to Douglass account #52096374 at Citibank from LetsGo accounts at Wegelin & Co and Banca Del Gottardo between 2003 and 2006 came to a total of $7,424,620. From Guernsey Trust Company account at Wegelin & Co was a total of $3,049,940 between 2006 and 2007. Additional wire transfers from LetsGo Ltd to another Douglas account #1209739556 between 2005 and 2007 came to $5,550,000. The wire transfers were endless and kept flowing for years while Atiku Abubakar was Vice President of Nigeria. The receiver meanwhile remained jobless and a student! She was the receiver of treasures and stolen funds, but the banks caught up with her and Atiku one by one, and one by one the banks closed the accounts. She was the robust pipe and willing tool, a messenger sent to the United States of America primarily to open accounts, receive funds, reroute funds, transfer funds and recycle funds for various personal and family needs of her husband. She was and is still well taken of; her home a $2 million house in the choice area of Potomac, Washington, D.C., It was clear the main purpose of the over thirty (30) accounts the Atiku-Abubakars opened was to receive fraudulent payments and to launder suspect funds. It was Atiku Abubakar that disgraced U.S. Congressman Bill Jefferson said he needed to give $500,000 as bribe to motivate him for an internet technology business in Nigeria for an American firm, iGate Inc. Atiku was found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to have used his influence at the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) to disburse money from the Fund to promote business ventures for himself and his friends, and engaged in fraudulent conversion of funds, corrupt practices, and money laundering. The Nigerian Senate ad hoc Committee recommended that Atiku Abubakar be sanctioned because he abused his office by aiding and abetting the diversion of funds in the sum of $145 million as loans to his friends. In this day and age, you do expect some semblance of credibility from any one who hope or plan to lead a nation like Nigeria. Atiku Abubakar lacks any credibility. He is neither responsible enough nor reliable enough to lead the Nigerian people. Integrity is one major requirement and condition of leadership and for his failure and dearth of integrity Atiku Abubakar is not fit to lead Nigeria. We disqualify him and find him unsuitable. It is our opinion that Atiku Abubakar should head in the opposite direction from Aso Rock for the purpose of paying for his crimes relating to corruption, money laundering and abuse of office -Babs Ajayi wrote from Canada
