The southern end of Lancaster No.4 box was a superb vantage post, and one of my favourite photographic locations, which on March 22 1963 featured Stanier Jubilee 4-6-0 No. 45704 Leviathan, paired with a narrow Fowler tender, leaving No.3 platform with the 2.54pm Preston-Barrow (1L21) comprised of just three vehicles. of which the centre coach is of Fowler design. In bay platform No.2, a Stanier 2-6-4T is waiting to depart bunker-first with a local service for Bare Lane and Morecambe. Note that the Glasson dock branch, diverging to the right. was accessible from the down slow (platform 3) as well as both bay platforms (Nos. 1 and 2). Picture Ronnie Herbert
