The spiritual message is that if we can be open to what is really happening around us, we can find the answers to our questions from what we hear and see and from the immediate feedback, coming from all levels of our social community. Most of the time, the only reason questions persist is because we are afraid of the answers. I find that happening all of the time. If we are caught in our desire to receive for self, alone, as were Anakin Skywalker and Balaam, we become distanced and blocked from the truth. This is what happens when people are only thinking about themselves; the world becomes like a mirror, where we see nothing but our own reflection. We see only what people can give us, or what we can take from them. The lesson is that it is important to be able to see and hear feedback from the people around us. Anakin Skywalker could not do this; he could not even see and hear feedback from his wife. If we listen to this feedback, we go a long way toward avoiding a Balaam disaster in our lives.
