The storm that never ends! Tropical Depression Genevieve - TopicsExpress

The storm that never ends! Tropical Depression Genevieve continues its long journey across the open Pacific and will very likely be with us for another two weeks. The GFS is showing little in the way of development in the short-term, with the system remaining fairly weak as it plods across the Central Pacific (typical CPac storm, no?). However, after crossing the International Dateline in about 3 days time, conditions will become increasingly favorable for intensification, and thats exactly what the model shows. By 7 days out (from now), the GFS shows Genevieve as a very strong typhoon, possibly equivalent to a major hurricane. Genevieve has currently been in existence for 15.5 days, of which it has been classified a tropical cyclone (per the operational best track) for 7 days. It has a long way to go before breaking any records, but it could very well be up there with the big names like John and Ioke, in terms of longevity, should the GFS depiction come to fruition.
