The story of Japans Fukushima nuclear reactor disaster has been long, grim and frightening, with growing worldwide concern that were not getting the whole story. Now, in this Reuters special report, Fukushima takes a turn toward the tragicomic. In reviewing Fukushima working conditions, Reuters interviewed more than 80 workers, employers and officials involved in the unprecedented nuclear clean-up, now thought to be more than a 30-year job. A common complaint: the projects dependence on a sprawling and little-scrutinized network of subcontractors - many of them inexperienced with nuclear work and some of them, police say, have ties to organized crime. Thats right -- take a job cleaning up Fukushima and you can not only expect to be underpaid, but possibly irradiated more than you bargained for while Yakuza take a cut off the top of your meagre salary.
