The story of the minimum wage involves providing for a livable wage for anyone working a full-time job. While we protest the wages for the poorest workers, lets not forget that there are other policies that can be used to attack the problem. For instance, rents and housing prices in most areas of the country have risen without correction or control since WWII. The exception is the minor correction in the 2000s which should have been a wake up call to us all that the way housing is priced affects us all both positively and negatively -- but increasing the divide between the haves and have nots. There are also minor efforts to control rents that have had limited success in some cities. Perhaps its time to consider limits on flipping and profit-making on our housing stock, which creates price inflation for all. Perhaps its time to understand that the system is rigged to give minor profits to homeowners and an almost unlimited source of replenishing interest income to banks and Wall Street fed off of our consumption.
