The strategy adopted by Grand Old Party of India during the course - TopicsExpress

The strategy adopted by Grand Old Party of India during the course of election campaign to woo Muslim minorities by whipping up the fear in their minds about the possible violent backlash from Hindu Fundamentalist groups in the event of BJP under Modi coming to power at the centre has backfired and took a heavy toll on its electoral performance. For Congress, secularism means nothing than unveiling measures with a clear objective to appease minorities. Rather than taking concrete steps to improve socio-economic conditions of Muslims over the decades when it was in power at the centre, Congress and its leadership had perceived and used them as mere vote banks. One of the significant outcomes of the 16th Loksabha polls is the voters outright rejection of identity politics and their preference for politics of development. It is time Congress keep its policy of practicing pseudo secularism at bay which holds the key for it to remain as a force to reckon with in the political landscape of the country.
