The summer holiday, although may be great fun, is a prime time for people to develop Insomnia (nhs.uk/conditions/insomnia/Pages/Introduction.aspx). Insomnia is often caused by a lack of routine, confusing your body clock. Here are some tips to break your insomnia: 1) Create routine - force yourself to wake up at 8am, even if 8 is when you finally fall asleep (one day of zero hours sleep is better than 3 weeks of 4 hours sleep between 8am-12 in the afternoon) 2) Be active during the day - while excercise and going out, meeting friends, etc, feels like the last thing you want to do on such little sleep, you need to tire yourself out mentally and physically in order to combat the insomnia 3) Vary your environment - get out of the house, and certainly out of your bedroom, in order to establish a more positive feeling about being at home 4) Relaxation - try bedtime yoga (https://youtube/watch?v=lKm7Br6PaGw) and meditation (https://youtube/watch?v=qSBTbAYQ10c) just before bed, or even as you lie in bed. It really helps to calm your nerves about having another restless night. If youre more calm and thinking less, your mind will allow your body to fall asleep. 5) Dont lie awake for hours getting more and more stressed out; go and sit in your living room for half an hour, under a blanket, with a hot drink (e.g. warm milk and honey) and a book. 6) Stay as positive and calm as possible - there are practical things you can do to combat Insomnia, there is no point stressing over it as then itll only make it more difficult to break the pattern. Realize that you can cope and do so much more than you thought, running on next to no sleep at all! :)
