The sweet potatoes are sliced, sugared, spiced with Cinnamon and Allspice, buttered, and covered. Overnight, the covered potatoes will weep water/juices. The sugar and spices will become saturated with the juices from the potatoes. When put on low heat, spicy syrup will form and the potatoes will become candied. Some of the candied potatoes will be eaten as-is but most will be mashed and put into a crust then baked until the edges of the crust become golden and flaky. That is how it is done. No marshmellows, whipped cream, or any of that crap. Why hide all of that flavor?
