The tale of a Doctor In a bustling city, there lived a brilliant and gentle doctor, who was really interested in healing patients (of course making a fair amount of money, but that was not primary). He was very good with diagnosis - even for the rarest of the diseases, and even with faintest of the symptoms. He was quite popular for that and the practice was making good money. Like all good (and graced) folks – he had a Guru to go to. He would go for his blessings once in a while. Just to thank for all the good things and listen to satsang. In short, life was good! But, one day, a patient with strange symptoms came to the doctor. Doctor wasn’t able to diagnose the suffering man. He tried consulting books, internet, peers, seniors – but to no avail. Finally after struggling for couple of months – he went for counsel to the Guru (what to do – a person turns in to Guru only when all else fails!). The Guru seemed quite happy to hear this development. Here is how the conversation went on – Guru, “Congrats!” Doctor, “What? But I just said I am not able to diagnose, even with all the reports and help … What’s there to congratulate me about? What does this mean?” Guru, “Doctor, this means that, now you just need to touch the patient’s shoulder and you will get to know what’s the disease!” Doctor, “Impossible.” Guru, “Suit yourself with what you trust, but that’s what is happening. Anyway, none of your other methods are working…” The Doctor tried what the Guru told. And voila! It worked! Now, the doctor became even more popular, patients were saving on the costs as well as the delay because of diagnostic tests. Patients from nearby cities started thronging his clinic. And almost within an year, there came a patient for whom, a touch on shoulder did not bring any diagnosis to the doctor’s mind. Now the doctor knew where to go to… “Great Improvement”, Guru continued, “Now all you need to do is just see in their eyes. In fact, your gaze will start healing process, you just need to give minimum medicines to help this healing wave.” Doctor couldn’t believe this. But, there was no other go. He tried this… it worked! Now, the doctor’s name was known across nation. Practice flourished and he was able to serve more and more people. And almost within another year, there came a patient for whom, the gaze didn’t work. Doctor ran to the Guru. “Fantastic, I have just one question, have you made enough money to last for rest of your days?”, exclaimed the Guru “Yes. Why?”, asked the baffled doctor Guru said, “Because, now, all you have to do is just sit comfortably at a place and close your eyes. Now, the thoughts of sick patients would come to you and you would heal them. Thoughts lead to the rest of the world. Of course, you won’t make any more money.” Doctor took a pause to think. He had made enough. He gave the clinic to a junior of his. People wondered, what could make a young achiever let go of his practice? And why he didn’t think of at least his patients!? They thought, “It’s this spiritual stuff. Just makes the mush out of the best of the brains. Another career nipped at the altar of spirituality…” The doctor was immensely happy. Every morning he would sit in a secluded room (He would call it Thought Clinic), close his eyes, and heal all the unwell thoughts coming to him. This was the best ‘Doctor’ work he had ever done. After almost another year - One fine day, the doctor sat in the ‘Thought Clinic’, but no thought came. He had lunch and hoped for some thoughts to heal in the afternoon. He waited patiently till night. But none wondered near! The next day, doctor was at his Guru’s feet. The Guru had tears of joy in his eyes and at once started dancing. “God is so graceful!”, the Guru sang. After some time, as the Guru seemed a bit settled. The astonished doctor asked, “But, what exactly has happened?” Guru laughingly exclaimed, “Doctor! This is an occasion for celebration. You are fully healed now!!!”
