The tank project is winding down, we promised we would have it - TopicsExpress

The tank project is winding down, we promised we would have it ready by the 11th for Veterans day, so the local post would have it on display and ready. Today, I stopped by, the smoke grenade launchers are installed and painted, all the lenses, like thermal, laser range finder, and night vision are installed, yea, they are fakes, but stand there and look at them, and you cant tell, she looks ready for battle in her old 60s paint scheme of OD and stars. Her antennae is tied down, water cans in place, you can just picture a puff of diesel smoke and away she goes. That is exactly what we wanted, not a museum piece, but stand there and imagine the hatches open, and the crew come out. The tankers I worked with to make this happen, were not just tankers, but combat tankers. One, a Purple Heart decorated Vietnam Vet, the other, a decorated Desert Storm Vet who left M60s and transitioned to the M1A1 Abrams, but no better company could I have had. I learned a lot, about machines, and about men. No book or History Channel special will match restoring a tank with real tankers who served on them. Next time you up Seneca way, come by North Fairplay street, American Legion Post 120, and check it out. A lot of work, and money out of pocket went into what you will see. Private donars like Lee Barrett, and Rick Worley, went a long way too, but come by and see, bring the kids, we worked long and hard for you to enjoy, a real US piece of history...
