The ten-book thing is too much. I want to know one non-fiction - TopicsExpress

The ten-book thing is too much. I want to know one non-fiction book that (1) is not crackpot weirdness—it needs to be pretty mainstream and (2) totally ran your assumptions and understanding of a subject up on the reef of I-guess-I-didnt-know-that. Feel free to copy and paste. Mine is Reza Aslans Zealot. At least for this year. Puts the context of Jesus life squarely in the socio-political scene of the era, entirely bypasses the traditional sinkholes of Jesus divinity and the literal truth of the resurrection, and just generally made the whole early church make a lot more sense to me. Plus hes a good writer.
