The thing about Joe Cocker is simply this. He had the very rare ability to truly merge his full being into music. He realized his want and his desire and struck out through the wilderness to find it. Those of you in the industry know how hard this is to achieve. However, in the end he arrived with an “original” voice. From that point the mad dog researched. Looking deep within himself for those pieces of art that called to him. He listened intently and ambitiously – not for the sake of fame – but for the chance to bring to life those pieces in a way that he heard them – and then to translate that into what we know as the Joe Cocker sound. Belushi loved him for this – John cut his teeth on Cocker impressions – but always said “no one see it like he does.” There are so many moments for Joe that to single on out is impossible – however, there is no doubt that the lad from Sheffield stopped the world when took a song written by Billy Preston, Bruce Fisher and Dennis Wilson and humbly said – this is worthy. Goodnight Joe - rest well and know you are missed. -
