The thing that made NuWay CHILI DOGS special was the chili that was made with their own unique recipe. It was kinda greasy but it was probably about 85% ground beef, a robust taste and heavily flavored with cumin seed, salt and a Mexican mild chili sausage called CHORIZO that was heated by quickly frying and added to the beef. Yes, and if you wanted cheese, 3 slices of cheddar cheese were added to the heated steamed bun before adding the heated Dog and heated chili. Hey, we should open a new NuWay. It would probably be a knockout. Apart from the chili, it was a 7 or 8 inch long Vienna skinless dog that exceeded the length of a standard hot dog bun supplied by Puritan Bakery. Both the dogs and the buns were steamed. They used the standard hot dog condiments, mustard, relish and diced onions. There are a few places using Vienna dogs that can duplicate the NuWay chili dog. Late 1950s, they had the best chili dog in town located at the NE corner of Bundy and Pico.
