The things that we see on the news - the issues that we talk about and politicize and debate - they are not external problems. They are internal problems. Our culture is not created beyond us, it is created BECAUSE of us. We have the ability (and responsibility) to shape the world around us in meaningful ways. And we have a lot of work to do. What has unfolded in Ferguson reminds me that we suck at loving each other. And the only way to improve is to make intentional efforts to exercise empathy. To practice compassion in small moments everyday so that when we arrive at monumental moments, we know what to do. We have practiced what to do. We have taken time to be better at love. Love is not an abstract concept or touchy feely sentiment. It is a muscle that can be improved with consistent, thoughtful practice. It grows stronger with each act of kindness and with every attempt at empathy. We will never perfect it, but we can most certainly can get better at it. WE are the solution to the violence and inequalities of our world. If we hope to make a difference, we must first practice BEING different. #betterlove #ferguson
