The tirade of squalls, in Hebrew mostly, by some family members, - TopicsExpress

The tirade of squalls, in Hebrew mostly, by some family members, friends and others who take issue with my recent posts, specifically, with my assertion that the Israeli army is guilty of murdering hundreds of palestinian Children in the Gaza War of 2014 -- can be summarized as follows: First. From the safety and comfort of my armchair in Chicago, far from the daily barrage of rockets fired by Hamas to Israel, with my children never subjected to the dread of sirens, to the existential, legitimate danger and fear that accompanies the situation [sic], my accusations are outrageous, full of self-hate and denial. Second. Given all the other massacres of innocent civilians in the world, given the USAs murky track record in the area of Human Rights due to it wiping out the Native Americans; enslaving the Blacks, and given Hamass stated mission to wipe Israel off the face of the Earth, my picking on the State of Israels atrocities, is insulant, hypocritical, double-standard and sanctimonious. Finally, Im accused of contributing to the promotion of hate, harassment and antisemitism against Jews in Israel and the World. Moi. No kidding! To the first point: It is true that I am protesting from the safety and comfort of my proverbial armchair in Chicago. If I lived in Israel now, what would my position be? And if it did not change, would I be brave enough to voice it in public? But if I did, there is a high probability that same family members, friends and others I mentioned above, would continue squealing, and suggest that I leave Israel if I dont like whats going on. Catch 22: If one objects from abroad, the antagonists scream foul because only those who live in Israel can have a voice. But when one who lives in Israel objects, the antagonists scream foul and demand they rid the country from their existence. To the second point: It is also true that the State of Israel is not unique in committing horrific atrocities on civilians. Human history is littered with these. But of course, fused into the demand to look at the atrocities committed by others, is the admission that Israel has committed atrocities, 431 dead Palestinian children in the latest War on Gaza. Reading the viscous personal attacks troubles me mostly because of the overwhelming mix of desperatie nationalism embedded in then.
