The title of this book is quite misleading. It is to me about Felix Dennis considering his definiteness of purpose, challenging you if you think it is about money (he most certainly says it isnt) but the growth that came from pursuing his passion. Then he gives many examples, street smarts, not academic management theory stuff. In my language he talks about time having mind, body, heart but he never uses those words. His views on how to build the culture, to reward the team, to structure the business etc are fascinating (particularly relevant as grow the hedge fund team etc.). And his human misadventures. His quote on page 253 really surprised me, just reading it now:- The only people the self-made rich can trust are those who knew them before they became wealthy... But then, you are to consider that I have been very poor and I am now very rich. I am an optimist by nature... Am I happy? No. Or, at least, only occasionally, when I am walking in the woods alone, or deeply ensconced in composing a difficult piece of verse, or sitting quietly with old friends over a bottle of wine. I could do all those things without wealth. So why do I not give it all away? --- I didnt expect to read this at all. Ive read so many biographies etc and in many cases can anticipate from the Think and Grow Rich framework. But in this case, no, the honesty totally staggered me. Makes me respect the book and author even more. felixdennis/books/how-to-get-rich/
