The tragedy that unfolded Friday night when police officer Brian - TopicsExpress

The tragedy that unfolded Friday night when police officer Brian Jones and 17 year-old Norfolk Christian student Mark Rodriguez were killed, and officer Curtis Allison was wounded, continues to weigh heavy on my heart. Officer Jones gave his life in his noble effort to stop the assailant, and Teri and I join our entire region in mourning the loss and in extending our sincere condolences to his family. I had the privilege of knowing Mark (his parents Carlos and Leigh Ellen are good friends of ours) and what an exceptional young man he was. I struggle to find words that will convey the depth of how Teri and I feel about the burden that has befallen both families. Perhaps that is best, because a far more eloquent and inspirational message than I could possibly pen in this difficult hour is found in what Mark himself wrote in his final blog post, just two months ago. I encourage you to read these excerpts from an article which appeared in the Virginian-Pilot: His final blog post, on April 5, is titled “Heaven.” Rodriguez describes how, one day, he will be with the Lord, how it will be a celebration, with loud trumpets and wedding bells. “Every quarrel, every hurt, it’s all gonna be resolved,” he wrote. “All of God’s children will be together and we won’t hurt each other anymore; we’ll finally understand how to love perfectly.
