The trail on mountain was marked as a family hike which made it ideal for the family reunion hike of six cousins, three sisters, two husbands and two dogs. They left the trailhead and quickly broke into three groups - the boy cousins with the dogs in the lead, the teenage girl and her younger girl cousin in the middle, and the aunts and uncles last. The hike was more difficult than expected. A nagging knee injury slowed the teenager and the steep and rocky climb made it difficult for her young cousin. Both were determined, but neither was thrilled. Each helped the other one on the climb up. With frequent breaks, and parental assurance that they could hike at their own rate, they eventually arrived at the glacial pond just below the summit. After their laborious hike, a swim in the pond was refreshing. Both girls agreed that the swim, their lunch, and the view were a reward worth their effort and their pain. Life is tough. It is full of trails and trials that are long and difficult. We may wonder why life, nature or God create such arduous ordeals for us. Do not take it personally. Life is tough and beautiful, and in the end, the reward is worth it. Lets Pray: Dear God, we do not want the struggles of life, but since we must, and have little choice in the matter, be with us, teach us what You wish us to learn, and give us somebody with whom we might share its burden and joys.
