The trend of the solar cell application for personal usage. Post date: (08/10/2014)08:04 (GMT-4) When we look at the solar cell application as a whole, most of the people will think about all those solar panel attached on the roof, that is by US law, require the home owners authority to install those panel so the family can enjoy the so-called green energy, and a sense of contributing to the carbon-neutral society that is already a global trend. However, there are more and more products that do not require a house ownership, but still can bring people a sense of contribution to the green world, also, most importantly, provide the freedom for people (especially the world travel businessmen/women as well as the world traveler) from the dependence of the grid. People think about, we get the cheap electricity every where, by plug-in our adapter(iphone, iPad, laptop), then we can power our device, and enjoy the global scale access to the internet and the online-business, including all academic, professional, for-profit, or non-profit activity. People think about we, as the developed countries or areas permanent residents, are going to switch to the electric vehicles or electric bikes(in the electric bikes. However, in some states of the USA, there is a serious banning from the people using electric bike, e.g. New York state, which already bring a tremendous headache for those food-delivery worker, by providing faster service, in the mean time going green. Reference from cleantechnica People living in the developed countries, control our lives (and our childrens and childrens childrens lives) and our consuming choice, either by going green(by switching to solar cell utility company that generate their large-scale power to sustain our everyday residential or commercial building), or sticking to the conventional coal, and non-renewable source energy source, which will last approximately another 40 years for oil, 163 years for natural gas, or 413 years for coal. Even myself, as a young researcher, can control which scientific topic that I want to tackle with my limited another 40 to 60 years of my professional career and limited resources. Yes, when people feel that their resources are limited, they often make a frugal and most of the time wise choice for their life and career. Yes, when the international icons, like MIT, Stanford, EPFL, U of delaware, Stevens Institute of Technology(who is the 2nd place winner of the Solar Decathlon 2013, and I am personally proud to contribute on the Solar Decathlon 2015 in Stevens Institute of Technology), Intel, IBM, google, microsoft, apple etc, learn that it is a critical stage that their R&D department must including the green energy research, or start purchasing power from the green-energy utility company,or even they themselves, installing large scale solar panel to power their research, education, commercial needs, IT IS THE TIME FOR OUR YOUNG RESEARCHER to think about in what areas, we can green our research project, to make it more environmentally sound from the life cycle assessment perspective....to choose the process that is energy-intensity to make solar cell based on the conventional silicon industry(so their manufacture phase, actually generate more pollution than the usage phase, and recycling phase) ? Or to choose a simple, low cost process to make thin film solar cell which is approaching the efficiency to 20%, which is thin, light weight, low-cost, roll-able, easy to install, easy to recycle, and easy to resell(so more consumer will make a wise choice to support them)... Yes, the solar industry has shifted from the silicon based process, to less toxic, low cost, light weight thin film technology. And you are the supporter for our young researchers. Please join us by welcoming our revolutionary thin film solar cell technology, supporting the thin film solar cell by purchasing the thin film solar panel. Your choice will determine how our childrens children living standard in the year 2427. Your fundamental scientific contribution will probably not benefit yourself in your next 40 to 60 years of your living standard, but I assure your that our children who live in 2427, will be blessed by our trend off consuming less, and pursuing the most-environmentally sound technology, the less-toxic, less-energy-consuming technology development.
