The trigger warning issue in academic settings has to be the most infuriating conversation Ive ever experienced in my life. At first it seems like a joke. But these people are dead serious. When you think about it, having warnings is absolutely the antithesis of what academia is supposed to be about. Which is intellectual growth. Which involves learning to manage ones own reactions rather than trying to control the world. As soon as a student walks down that road, they are essentially taking on a lifelong handicap. The more this kind of intellectual cowardice spreads, the worse the results will be. It is literally the disintegration of higher education. And it has to be stopped in its tracks.
